Kenny LeMans

2014 Shelby GT500 convertible

Kenny is a 2014 Shelby GT500 convertible in Race Red with white Le Mans stripes. Under the hood is a supercharged V8 making 662 horsepower — at the time, the most powerful production Mustang Ford had ever built.

The backstory

KENNY LeMANS · NO. 001 — ABOUT THIS CAR

Why the 2014 GT500 matters

The 2013–2014 Shelby GT500 is widely seen as the peak of raw American muscle — the last of its kind before the Mustang went high-tech.

The "Trinity" V8

A 5.8-liter supercharged V8 with 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque. Ford billed it as the most powerful production V8 in the world at launch. Its cylinder walls are plasma-spray coated instead of lined, to save weight. Testers clocked 0–60 in as little as 3.5 seconds, the coupe topped 200 mph, and it ran with six-figure exotics.

Manual only

Every 2014 GT500 came with a Tremec six-speed manual and a carbon-fiber driveshaft. 662 horsepower through a heavy clutch — an analog connection today's automatic GT500 doesn't offer.

The last live-axle Shelby

The final GT500 with a solid rear axle. No drive modes, no hand-holding — reviewers warned it would break the rear tires loose at 60 mph if you got greedy.

Carroll Shelby's last

The last GT500 generation developed while Carroll Shelby was alive. He died in May 2012, and this car is part of his legacy.

Retro design, perfected

The final form of Ford's 1960s-inspired look: sequential LED taillights, functional hood vents, and SVT badging — fastback attitude with 21st-century speed.

Character

Shelby

Shelby is a cobra, and on Route 66 she's the one who knows every mile of the road.
