Once upon a time...

... deep in the heat haze of New Mexico’s deserts, along a sun-baked ribbon of Route 66 where old cars once roared past neon signs and dreamers, there lived an wise cobra named Shelby.

Her patterned scales shimmered like colorful camouflage, so folks chuckled that she probably had some rattlesnake blood in her.  Long ago, back in 1962, Shelby was a pit master for the great Caroll Shelby.  Caroll, a genius racer, bolted a thundering Ford V8 onto a skinny British AC Ace starting with a peppy 260 cubic inches and then finally using a beastly 427 that roared over 400 horsepower.  Zero to sixty in four heartbeats.  Shelby was part of those those amazing days of racing, helping Caroll snatch championships in ’63, ’64, and ’65.  They even humbled Ferraris in 1965 to win the World Manufacturers GT title.  It was the first American car ever to do it.  When the pits went wild, Shelby was the one darting in like a lightening bolt, swapping tires, pumping fuel, and fixing woes in seconds flat.  They called her a “Pit Viper," which just made her laugh because everyone knows cobras are not vipers.  The years rolled on.  The crowds thinned, the roars grew quieter, and Shelby retired to the quiet NM dunes, still dreaming of the old thunder.

But one hot...

...afternoon the ground trembled.  A young red muscle car rolled up - Kenny LeMans, a blazing fast 2014 Shelby GT500 convertible - fresh from Michigan’s Flat Rock factory.  He was one of the very last Shelby's that Caroll worked on.  In fact, only 5,730 GT500s were built that year, and just 914 convertibles.  Kenny's Race Red body burned bright, with his white LeMans stripes flashing like victory scars from the same 1966 Le Mans battles Shelby lived and fought.  His supercharged engine growled 662 horsepower, ready to blast to 200 miles per hour, carrying the exact same fire Carroll Shelby sparked decades earlier.

They locked eyes - old cobra and young muscle. Kenny rumbled with a grin, “Old-timer, you taught ’em how to win… let me show you how I roar.”  Shelby’s eyes sparkled.  She hissed a laugh, “Kid, you’ve got the muscle. I’ve got the tricks. Let’s bring it all back.”

And just like that, Shelby the retired legend and Kenny the fresh hotshot sparked the Ford Velocity Vehicle Network (FVVN).
